Walesby Venison

Our herd of red deer live in hill and valley fields in the Lincolnshire Wolds at Walesby. They have good natural cover of bushes and trees. In the winter, the young are housed and all have access to barn shelter. They are naturally fed on a grass diet in the summer, supplemented with home grown hay, barley and sugar beet in the winter. They are not fed any hormones, growth promoters or artificial feeds.

We are members of the British Deer Farmer's Association (BDFA). Lots of information about deer farming, and some great recipes can be found on their website at

Healthy Properties of Venison

Venison is very tender and nutritious - less than half the fat of beef, pork and lamb, and even lower fat and less cholesterol than skinless chicken. It is a good source of iron and omega-3 (an essential fatty acid). Our deer have a healthy diet of home produced forage. We do not use pesticide or fertiliser on their grass, so there are no harmful residues in our venison.
